How to Play
Goal: Make a paying hand from the pay table. This is a play-chip machine only, there are no deposits, no prizes and no way to buy chips. If your stack runs out the game restakes you.

About Video Poker
Video poker looks like a slot machine and plays like a puzzle. You are dealt five cards, you decide which to keep, and you draw replacements for the rest. There is no opponent and no bluffing, only you against a fixed pay table, which means a mathematically correct hold exists for every hand you can be dealt. That is what separates it from games of pure chance.
This is Jacks or Better, the standard variant and the right one to learn on. The name is the central rule: a pair only pays if it is jacks or higher, and anything below that pays nothing at all. That single quirk generates almost every counterintuitive play in the game, because a low pair you would instinctively protect is in fact worth nothing.

Video poker holds that most players get wrong
- Break a low pair to chase four cards to a straight flush or three to a royal. The pair pays nothing, so protecting it costs you the better draw.
- Never hold a kicker. With a pair of queens and an ace, keep only the queens, because the ace reduces your chances of improving and improves nothing itself.
- Four cards to a flush beats a low pair every time, and beats holding a single high card even more clearly.
- Keep both pairs when you have two pair. It is the only made hand where drawing one card to a full house is better than any alternative.
- With nothing at all, hold your highest card of jack or above and draw four. With no high card, draw five.
